Lake Travis Water Levels: What Every Dock Owner Should Know
March 17, 20261 min read

Navigating Lake Travis Water Fluctuations
Lake Travis is known for dramatic water level changes — sometimes swinging 20+ feet between drought and flood conditions. Understanding these fluctuations is critical for protecting your investment.
How Water Levels Affect Your Dock
- Boat Lifts — Your lift must have enough travel range to accommodate changing depths. We recommend 4-5ft lift range minimum.
- Dock Height — Fixed docks can end up too high or submerged. Floating docks adapt automatically but need proper anchoring.
- Shoreline Erosion — Rising and falling waters accelerate erosion on unprotected shorelines.
- Utilities — Electrical connections and water lines must be designed for variable heights.
Planning for the Future
When we design and build docks on Lake Travis, we always account for historical water level data and LCRA projections. This means building in flexibility — adjustable pilings, properly rated lift systems, and erosion protection across the full range of conditions.
